What it does

  • Instant Dark Mode

Apply dark mode to any website with a single click using CSS filter-based color inversion. No need to wait for site-specific dark themes.

  • Per-Site & Global Toggle

Enable dark mode for just the current site or toggle it on globally for all websites. Each site's preference is saved automatically.

  • Brightness Control

Adjust brightness from 50% to 100% to find the perfect comfort level for your eyes in any lighting condition.

  • Contrast Control

Fine-tune contrast from 80% to 120% to improve readability on dark backgrounds.

  • Smart Image Handling

Images, videos, canvases, and SVGs are automatically reverse-inverted so they display with their original colors.

  • Whitelist Management

Exclude specific sites from dark mode. Sites with native dark themes can be whitelisted to prevent double-inversion.

How to use it

  1. 01Click the Dark Mode icon in your toolbar to open the control panel.

Permissions & privacy

Single purpose

Dark Mode has a single purpose: to apply a dark color theme to web pages using CSS filters, allowing users to toggle dark mode per site or globally, adjust brightness and contrast, and manage a whitelist of excluded sites.

activeTabDark Mode requires the activeTab permission to inject CSS filter styles into the current webpage in order to apply dark mode color inversion. When the user activates the extension, it modifies the page's filter and background-color CSS properties on the document element, and adds a style element to reverse-invert images and videos. This permission is only active when the user explicitly interacts with the extension.
storageDark Mode uses the storage permission to save per-site dark mode preferences (enabled state, brightness, contrast), the global dark mode toggle state, and the whitelist of excluded sites. This allows the extension to remember user settings and automatically apply dark mode on revisited sites. All data is stored locally using chrome.storage.sync and is never transmitted to any external server.

<all_urls>Every site — because it has to work on whatever page you're on.

Dark Mode runs entirely in your browser. Per-site settings and whitelist data are stored locally using chrome.storage. No page content, browsing history, or personal data is collected, transmitted, or stored on any external server. The extension works fully offline after installation. It runs only the code shipped inside the package — no remote code is fetched.
