Refresh a subreddit and the top half is posts you scrolled past an hour ago. This remembers what you have already looked at and either greys those posts out or takes them out of the feed, so what is left is what you have not read.

Reddit keeps showing you posts you already scrolled past. This extension hides seen Reddit posts so the same cards stop coming back as you scroll.

Once you've viewed a post it's remembered, and you can dim seen posts on Reddit or hide them from the feed entirely. A post counts as seen when you click it, or after it stays on screen for about a second. The effect only applies after the post scrolls off screen, so the page never jumps while you're reading.

Switch modes from the toolbar popup. Dim fades and greys out viewed posts (hover to bring one back). Hide removes them from the feed to hide viewed Reddit posts completely. It's the "hide already seen" behavior Reddit doesn't have built in, with no account and no setup.

  • Coming back to the same subreddit all day

    On the second and third visit the feed reorders but the posts are mostly the same. Anything you already dwelled on is marked, so a reload leaves the new submissions standing out. The history survives closing the browser and stays in sync across open Reddit tabs.

  • Working through a big backlog

    Hide mode removes viewed posts from the feed with no empty gap where they used to be, which turns a long subreddit into something you can actually finish. The effect only lands after a post has scrolled off screen, so nothing shifts under your cursor while you are reading.

  • Keeping seen posts visible but obvious

    If you would rather not lose things entirely, Dim fades and desaturates viewed posts instead of removing them, and hovering or focusing one brings it back to full strength. Switching between Dim and Hide from the popup applies immediately without a reload or a rescan.

How to use it

Questions people ask

How do I hide posts I've already seen on Reddit?

Install it and open any feed — home, a subreddit, r/popular, search or a profile — then browse as usual. Posts are recorded on their own, and the toolbar popup switches between Dim and Hide, turns the effect off, or clears the history. Reddit has no built-in setting for this.

When exactly does a post count as seen?

Either when you click it, or when at least half of it stays on screen for about one second. The class is applied after the post leaves the viewport, not while you are looking at it, which is what stops the layout from jumping mid-read.

Does this work on old.reddit.com?

It runs across Reddit layouts and subdomains including www, old, sh, new and locale variants, matching posts through shreddit-post elements, post-container test IDs and article wrappers. Post identity is normalized to Reddit's t3_ fullname form, so the same post is recognized as seen no matter which layout you first saw it in.

What is stored, and where does it live?

The manifest declares one permission, storage, with no host_permissions. Three things go into chrome.storage.local: the list of seen post IDs, your dim/hide choice and the on/off state. The content script is matched to https://*.reddit.com/*, and the popup's Clear button deletes the list on the spot.

Will the seen list grow forever and slow things down?

No, the history is capped at 8,000 post IDs and the oldest entries are dropped once you pass that. Saves are debounced rather than written on every post, and pending IDs are flushed before the page unloads. The popup shows the current count if you want to check it.
