You look up a word, the sentence makes sense, and by the next paragraph the word is gone again. This keeps a running vocabulary list in the Chrome toolbar and quizzes you on it — you type the meaning, and it tells you whether you had it.

Language Learning is a simple vocabulary builder that lives in your browser toolbar. Add words with their meanings, review your word list, and test yourself with quizzes — all from the popup.

When you'd reach for it

  • Words you hit while reading in another language

    You are halfway through an article or a forum thread and one word stops you. Open the popup, put the word in the first field and the meaning in the second, press Add, and the list opens so you can see it land. The tab you were reading stays exactly where it was.

  • Drilling a word list before an exam

    The Quiz tab draws a random entry from your list and shows only the word. Type what it means, check the answer, and the saved meaning appears either way before you move to the next draw. A correct answer bumps that word's review count, so the list slowly shows you which words you actually know.

  • A personal dictionary you can rewrite

    The List tab shows every entry with its meaning, how many times you have got it right, and the date of the last correct answer. Each row carries Edit and Delete buttons, so a definition you typed badly can be fixed in place instead of being saved twice.

Language Learning is a vocabulary builder extension. Users add words with their meanings, browse their word list, and take quizzes to practice recall. All vocabulary data is stored locally in the browser.

Questions people ask

How do I keep a vocabulary list in chrome?

Pin the extension and use the Add tab in its popup — one field for the word, one for the meaning, then Add. Entries are written to the browser's local extension storage as you save them. The List tab shows the running total next to its label, so you always see how big the list has grown.

Does the quiz accept an answer that is close enough?

No. Your answer is compared with the saved meaning after trimming spaces and lowering case, so it has to match the text you typed when you created the entry. If you plan to quiz yourself, write meanings short and in one consistent form — "to give up" and "give up" are treated as different answers.

Can I move my saved words to another computer?

Not at the moment. Words go into chrome.storage.local, which belongs to a single browser profile on a single machine, and the popup has no export or import button. Removing the extension or clearing its storage removes the word list with it, so treat a long list as something worth copying out manually.

What permissions does the manifest declare?

Storage, webNavigation and tabs, plus host access to all sites. Storage is where the words, their meanings, the review counts and the last-correct dates are written. WebNavigation and tabs are the browser-level permissions for page-load and tab events, and the all-sites host access is what puts every site in their scope. The popup's Add, List and Quiz screens themselves work off the stored list.

Which languages does it work for?

Any pair you want. Both fields are free text, so the word can be Spanish and the meaning Korean, or the word can be English and the meaning an English definition. The popup interface itself ships in eleven languages, including English, Korean, Japanese, Spanish and German, and a toggle in the header switches between the light and dark theme.
